The first ePremier League Tournament came to a close on Saturday night with Liverpool taking home the trophy after some serious tekkers from Mr XBox himself, F2TekKz. The tournament had a few ups and downs over the course of two days culminating in a final featuring Manchester United, represented by KyleLeese_ and Liverpool. F2TekKz won the first PS4 leg 4 -1 before cementing victory in the XBox leg with a 2 -1 win. Congratulations to Liverpool and F2TekKz on their victory from the team at Gamer Wager.
The tournament was shown on Sky Sports and in typical Sky fashion was absolutely milked for every advertising penny possible. Though viewing figures are not currently available we are led to believe that at least 500,000 people watched the final. This is good for Sky, good for esports and good for the players as their names were pushed into the mainstream, and just think of the money they would have earned in prizes?......... SWEET FA (excuse the pun).
There were no prize pools for the winner of the first ePremier League Tournament!!! Maybe the Premier League is short of a few quid this time of year? after all it only generates revenues of £2.8bn per year, to finish bottom in the Premier League (and be relegated) gives a team Merit money of £1.9m, and players earn on average £50,000 per week. We are not saying that F2TekKz should have earned anything near £50,000 per week but to give him nothing is a bit of an insult, in our opinion. Granted, the players do receive 850 FIFA Global Series Points which will go towards entrance to the eWorld Cup. The winner of that, Msdossary, took home £195,000 last year which is the weekly wage of Luke Shaw.... LUKE SHAW!!!
We are not saying the first ePremier League Tournament was a let down, far from it, the production was textbook and the studio features were hosted brilliantly. What we are trying to say is, loosen the purse strings, give the guys some money as a prize pool, you didn't even give them a FIFA pack to unpack, after all, these types of tournament will soon be Sky Sports bread and butter.
