PlayStation 5 details revealed

Updated: Apr 17, 2019

They come in threes don't they, first we had Stadia details, then Apple Arcade and now we have some information on the PlayStation 5 with Sony detailing some of the console's specs and other details. Mark Cerny confirmed that the new console - which hasn't officially been named the PS5 yet - won't have a 2019 release date. But fear not, the current rumors suggest that it will launch in March 2020 or November 2020.... basically 2020! We waited two years for Game of Thrones so this shouldn't be a problem (did anyone else question their own morals at Jon Snow kissing his own Aunt in front of a dragon?).

According to Cerny, the PS5 is more of a revolution than an evolution, although it will share some internal similarities with the PS4, so despite being much faster and more powerful, the next-gen PlayStation will also be backwards compatible with the PS4, rejoice all round, we can all still be absolutely shite at Sekiro Shadows Die Twice, but this time on the PS5 instead! When talking of the PS5 Mark Cerny detailed that "The CPU is based on the third generation of AMD’s Ryzen line and contains eight cores of the company’s new 7nm Zen 2 microarchitecture," the Wired post explains. "The GPU, a custom variant of Radeon’s Navi family, will support ray tracing, a technique that models the travel of light to simulate complex interactions in 3D environments. "While ray tracing is a staple of Hollywood visual effects and is beginning to worm its way into $10,000 high-end processors, no game console has been able to manage it. Yet."

Okay, so the PS5 is going to be faster and and backward compatible, which is brilliant for gaming fans. There are rumors that the hardware will cost around £399, which isn't too expensive when you compare it to the current cost of a PlayStation Pro. Are we excited? Of course we are, it's PlayStation 5 mate!!!!
